The Toronto Zoo is the largest zoo in Canada and one of the leading wildlife conservation centers in North
America. Opened in 1974, the zoo spans over 287 hectares (710 acres) and is home to more than 3,000 animals
representing over 300 species from around the world.
The zoo is designed to recreate natural habitats, allowing animals to live in environments similar to their
native ecosystems. Visitors can explore multiple regions including Africa, the Americas, Indo-Malaya, and the
